Mary was invited by Raffles City to be part of the Mickey Go Local project, where 90 Mickey Mouse figurines were designed by local celebrities and professionals across different industries. The 90 artistes including President Halimah Yacob, singer JJ Lin and Nathan Hartono, were invited to express what it means to be a Singaporean, and the Singaporean culture on a 60cm tall blank figurine.

The event is to mark Mickey turning 90, while paying homage to Singapore’s rich heritage and culture. The figurines will be on display from August 1 to August 29 at the mall.

In conjunction with the campaign, CapitaLand Hope Foundation (CHF) will be donating up to $300,000 to the President’s Challenge 2018, including $10,000 for Madam Halimah’s creation, and $2,000 each for the other 89 designs.

Mary’s description of her Mickey :

” If Mickey grew up in Singapore in the 70s-80s, he would be in a singlet, shorts and flip flops!

With such hot weather in Singapore, he would need a straw fan and a cute little towelette mimicking the Samsui women whose hard work helped shape Singapore between the 1920s and 1940s.

Singaporeans, cherish what we have today! Happy Birthday Singapore! ”
